I got the IPOD interface installed in about 20 minutes since I had a cd changed and the optical wires were already set in place. Just need to unplug the harness from the cd changer and plug it directly to the IPOD interface. The rest of the time I spend mounting it with the zip ties. Its pretty cramped in there so it took some finesse to wrap it around. Now that I connect my IPOD, it shows the BMW logo and its says "OK to Disconnect" but my CD changer option is greyed out so I can't select it. What gives? Anyone else have the same problem? Do i need a software update? I have a 10/04 build '05 545i.

Yep, sounds like you need a software update. Try to get it done for free under BMW NA Warranty. Some dealers are aware of it, some aren't.

Could also be the software version on your iPod. Make sure you have the latest update from Apple before you go running off wasting time at your dealership.

Marioec: get it from Garry at Newport BMW (sponsor on the forum). Best price I found anywhere!

Like BMWBonehead said, it got it from Gary at Newport BMW. Total it was under $250. Basically what i did was take out the CD changer and unplug the wiring harness from the rear and plug it directly into the IPOD interface. Then i mounted it with the padding and zip ties and that was it. I plug it into my ipod and it shows the BMW logo but my CD Changed option is greyed out so i can't select it. I just the firmware and its fine. I don't know what else to try. I thought a lot of members did this mod with no problems? Any thoughts or help from any of you?

My car is going in for service soon and the Progman 25 upgrade and I was wondering if i need to specifically tell them to make sure they enable the IPOD interface function or will it do it automatically with the upgrade? I don't want them trying to charge me for the software, even though its under warrranty, simply because i have added the IPOD interface.

You need to specifically tell them you want the iPod programming, or else they won't check it off, and you're gonna be back at square 1.

OK I did the install today and have the same problem, BMW logo on iPOD Mini but CD on i-Drive greyed out. I have an 12/04 build, 2005 545i. Looks like I need the programming as well. Install went fairly smooth although the door that I purchased doesn't fit right now as I guess the interface sits too close to the front. I purchased the parts from Garry @ Newport, great price and fast shipping.
