iPod not showing on iDrive

I installed an iPod interface last night, all connections seem to be good. I connected my iPhone 3G and my friend's iPod Classic, but neither showed up in iDrive. iPhone and iPod showed that it's connected (BMW logo on the screen), but I cannot access anything via iDrive. The iDrive screen just shows regular single CD selection with no other options. My CD player can play MP3 files. I searched the forum, seems like iPhone 3G v.3 software is not compatible. But iPod Classic? From what I gathered from this forum, I don't need programming if I can play MP3 files. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You do need iDrive programming from the dealer. With MP3 feature, it only indicates that your car can be retrofitted for iPod interface.
