I just bought my second E60. I drove 100.000 km in my 530. Last friday my 535d arrived:-)) But I want to iPod it. For the older models BMW delivers cable and 'full' integration. Not for the E60. Anyone who know more about it?

^Apparently^, something is planned, but god only knows when it will come. I would expect that, when it is released, the Dension ice>link plus fibre will be much better than the BMW offering. Untill then, an FM modulator like the iTrip, or BMWs excessivly priced AUX input is your only option. You buy just about any other car, and an aux input is just a matter of plugging a lead into the back of the Head unit - on the 5 series it needs plugging in, then to be told its there, which takes 8 hours or so.

Current options are Aux-in jack or FM modulator. There are rumors that a bluetooth interconnect will be available in the near future, but that would almost certainly require you to buy a new iPOD (unless Apple makes a snap-on radio for older units, which is possible).

At the very least, we should be able to send control information to the iPOD from the hard buttons in the car and via soft-commands in iDrive. The iPOD should also be able to send its screen information back to the iDrive screen. This would happen via the AVRCP profile. There's a profile that supports the BT transfer of the stereo audio itself (A2DP), but even if this is possible, some may opt to use a wired link along with some wired power connector and only use AVRCP to pass the control and display information.

And, of course, a software update - which I assume they would charge you for if it was for the priveledge of being able to use your iPod.

Well, BMW keeps enhancing the BT - there will be enhancements to improve phone support and bring the current features more in-line with emerging specs. At least we have the choice.

My dealer charged me $140 labor (about 1 hour) for the aux input install. They also updated to CIP 17.01, and who knows how long that took, but I paid for 1 hour total.

Thanks, yeah I like that the E60 can be upgraded at all time. I know Steve Jobs loves BMW, that was the reason that they did a press release 2 years that BMW was the first car which could be iPoded... Steve, if you read this, please call some guys to make my iDrive a mouse...

I wouldn't hold my breath...they've slipped the date a few times already, and in June the said it would be "by the end of this year."
