A fellow Washingtonian, nice to see a few more of us on the forum. Yes, you can integrate the new ipod interface. Although depending on whether you have a CD changer or not you pay need to have some coding done.

Edit: I just saw that you have the 6 disc changer so you can definitely do it. But you will lose the changer.

Actually there are few people that have just done it all by themselves since they have the 6 disc changer. It's a pretty easy install from the sound of things, assuming you're comfortable taking apart your glove box. From what I've seen there is no coding involved if you have the cd changer. The prices I've seen for the dealer to do it range from $300-$600. Personally, I would just do it myself. If you want I'd be glad to help you out with it.

Oh that's great!, i certainly wouldnt mind ur assistance...am i right to say that the IPOD interface would have the program running in I-Drive and that we are able to control the IPOD from the I-drive? and the cable would be fixed into the glove box?

Recent DIY efforts have shown it is very, very easy. Not even removing Glovebox by some reports. See the Ipod thread in DIY section. I don't believe u stated if u had a 6CDC or not. Much easier if you do. I have seen kit parts cost at $299 (some got a CCA discount on that as well) and a dealer install charge of $140 - lowest reported - and that includes the latest software that, according to some reports, has improvements in several areas not related to the iPod itself. BTW, the kit does not contain the cover for teh gap u have after removing the 6CDC. That part number and cost is also in the DIY thread.

The way I understand it, there is no actual Ipod menu, there's just the CDC menu but you can control your ipod with idrive yes. And the cable would be fixed in the glovebox, unless of course you want to run it somewhere else. I've just about taken apart my entire dash so I could probably run it anywhere you want. I'm sure BMW would do it for you also, but they would definitely charge you more.

Probably not without a software upgrade and some coding. Do you have a cd changer?

The key is your production date. If produced prior to March 05 you will need to wait for the next major software update to have the ipod interface work. The ipod integration news release states 05/03 production and newer only (for the time being). The upcoming update reportedly will also address the early E63's and E65's as well.
