You will need to have a CD Changer or CD Changer prep car. You replace or put in place of the CD changer a IPOD module which will connect to the vehicles IBus. From here you plugin your IPOD and enjoy.

My Ride: 2005 545i Titanium Silver Metallic / Gray / Steptronic / Sport Package w/ active steering, adaptive xenons, sport seats, 18" style 124 wheels / Logic 7 sound / PDC / Bluetooth / iPod Integration
If you have the 6 disc changer the iPod integration is definitely the way to go. Your BMW dealer should be able to do this for you in the neighborhood of $450. If you do not have the changer but your vehicle is prewired for one then your cost will still be the same. If you do not have wiring for a changer then the integration can still be done but it will be more expensive. I highly recommend going this route as your iPod will stay in the glove box out of sight and you can control the iPod via iDrive and your steering wheel controls. It is a very slick interface and the sound quality is fantastic. I just had the integration installed on my 545i and in conjunction with the Logic7 system the sound quality is world class.
