from what I see here it could replace the AUX connector which has also been mentioned. For the E60 not yet available but planned.

My Ride: 2005 545i SMG. Titanium Grey with Grey interior and Anthracite wood.
There was a thread started on this about a month ago. I even talked to the marketing directior at the company. He said they are having a propritory problem with the fiberoptic cabeling in the E60. They are working on it. The previous link had an area for you to sign up interest in the product. The cost has been estimated at aprox $220.00 US
