I was thinking... if BMW will have connector for I-pod, why not create a USB connector or memory card reader... for instance, SD card reader to read huge amounts of mp3 data, or USB drive to connect to virtually any mp3 players out there or hard drives that can hold navigation data which would load much quicker on the go.... that would be awesome!!

everyone agrees?

just a thought!!

cheers everyone!!

They could. It wouldn't be very hard to do. However, it wouldn't be any quicker than the iPod interface. The iPod interface uses either FireWire (faster than USB) or USB 2.0. BMW is likely using USB 2.0 since newer iPods have been dropping Firewire due to PC users not needing it. SD is limited in size when compared to a flash based iPod such as the 4GB iPod Nano and to a hard drive iPod such as the current 30GB and 60GB models. Apple also owns over 85% of the market of mp3 players. And just this week GM, Ford and Mazda announced they will include iPod integration in all or most 2007 models. So while BMW could do it and someone could possibly make an adapter, would they really want to?
