Go for the Aux Input Option on this same board.

I sent an inquiry to the BMW Customer Service people inquiring about iPod adapters and MP3 compatibility and this is the response I got. I have asked when the adapter will be available and have npt heard back yet. Will post an update as soon as I get something.

(by the way - I sent this request to BMW Cust Svc on a Sunday AM (today) and got a response on the same day - FANTASTIC response time, sort of like my car...)

************************
Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding your 2005 BMW 530i. That is a great model vehicle and we hope it is serving you well.

We apologize for your disappointment with the unavailability of the auxiliary
input adapter for your vehicle. At this time, the in-dash CD player does not
have the ability to play MP3s either. We are looking to offer the iPod adapter
for the 5 Series, but do not expect that an update will be available for the
in-dash CD player to allow it the capability to play MP3s.

We hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions, please
respond to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department
at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern
Standard Time.

Sincerely,

Customer Relations and Services
Representative

I have the iPod adaptor on my X3, and I wish I had the plain aux. input.

Aux input plusses: can use the iPod click wheel to listen to anything you want on the iPod. Can see what you're playing on the iPod's display. Minusses: need an external source of power if you need more than the battery gives you, such as a cigarette lighter adaptor. The Ultimate Minus (tm) would be crashing your car while you are fiddling around with the iPod while driving.

iPod adaptor plusses: provides power; won't let you be distracted while driving. Minusses: cannot use the click wheel at all; iPod display goes totally blank; can only play music that you've previously added to one of five possible playlists, or must scroll thru your entire library track by track with no display to show you what you've queued up (like the old Name that Tune game show).
