Hi There

I am a newbie to E60?s ? I just got a 2006 550i and am looking for an inexpensive way to find a home / dock / place to charge my iPhone 3Gs. Boy the spaces to put stuff are sure limited. -- I have read all of the threads relating to this -- I am just hoping to see if anyone has any other experiences.

1. I am pretty broke (just bought the car)
2. Car does not have Phone or Aux. Does have CD Changer and Bluetooth
3. I don?t need the iPod connectivity with or without the iDrive control (but obviously it wouldn?t hurt)
4. Really I just need a handy place to store and charge my iPhone

I like the ashtray insert from spec dock:

1. Does anyone have experience with this?
2. Can I keep my phone in its in-case slider ? With the bottom on, too?
3. Are there other, cheaper alternatives? No I don?t want to make one myself.

I am thinking of getting one of those and just doing the power part.

spec dock is over priced... and theres no other way..


you can make one for roughly like 60$... its not that hard. and no you have to take the incase bottom case out...

if you dont want to make one than only way is to pay 250 for speck dock.. but whats the point if you dont have aux or ipod to listen music??


it might be better just get like car charger for iphone...

There is a how to write up on this forum. Here is my cheap home brew using the apple supplied dock insert, $20 ebay cable, glue, bondo, and duplicolor trim paint.

Or you can use a Scosche IFWAHBK PassPort Home Dock Charging adapter. I'll do this when I have the time.


If not, I'll just use the above Scosche IFWA passPORT Charging Adapter. Since I have a rubber iPhone 3G case it will not slide around when on top of the ash tray (With cover on).
Both adapters charges while playing your iPods/iPhones.

I'm a BB guy so the ipod video/classic works best for me with not need for charging adapters.
