I went to BMW today and they took my key away to get all my info on my car as its due a service. I was told that coz its the 3rd oil change the fuel filter and intake silencer will need changing to..

But what on earth is it? How important is it? What does it do?

I got quoted over ?1000 by BMW for a service, they can stick it up there arse, ill get it done else where but still want to know if its worth getting the intake silencer done

intake filter is there name for the air filter.

they are crazy.. Oil change + oil filter + air filter is not supposed to cost more then 100$. And u saying they want 1000 POUNDS>??? redicoulos. find an aftermarket shop just make sure they are good. synthetic oil and filters are cheap! they will spend like 50-80$ for parts and will charge you 1000 for what?

I saw the samething when I serviced my car. I didn't really give it a second thought and have always assumed it was either the air filter or charcoal filter. According to this thread the intake silencer is the air filter http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...+silencer\

I had the same with mine for the 3rd service although they wanted ?480. I told them just to do the oil at ?195 as I couldn't justify them fitting 2 filters for an extra ?300 almost!

P.S. a ?1000 they are taking you for a ride in your own car mate!
