So I was installing my new kidney grilles today and saw that behind the grille there is an opening where a Air-Ram could be installed. But in the same location on the other side there is the same vent but with a black cover piece over the vent. It is a factory BMW piece because it says BMW made in Germany but could I gain a few HP if I remove it? It is kept in place by a few pressure tabs. Or should I leave it there?

RPI scoop

only the left for the non-M e60s though since the stock airbox is on the driver's side and that outlet leads directly into it.

Leave it there, unless you have a Dinan intake (or something similar).

As for the driver's side opening, get an RPI scoop for it.
Check with Nerweezy or r1racer to order one

Oh, ok thanks! I think I will get an RPI scoop. What's the HP increase on them? I won't see any increase in lower speeds because there is not as much air force right?

So how much buck are we looking at? I can't find any on ebay. If I buy one though I will get it from Nerweezy.

Not available on eBay (AFAIK), but you can order it from Trinity,

which spun off from my initial group buy for the V8s (545i/550i),

Where I live it is hard to get up to 70mph. And I am looking for low speed HP increase, so I think the RPI scoop is not for me

I'm gonna' go waaaaay out on a limb here and say that there is exactly zero benefit from any "ram" air kit, regardless of brand, at anything under high (very high) speeds.

YMMV,
Barry
