Hey all,

First off I know nothing about remaps but keen to find out what it is and how it works.

Would I be right in thinking that *if* more stress is placed on the car it would be far less of an issue on the entry level engines (ie 520d) as the rest of the car is based on the same components or is this not relevant.

I am keen on finding out more on remapping, can anyone point me in the right direction for some intro details. DMS Automotive web didn't have much info but are not far from me so I'll probably call to get pricing, etc.

Thanks.

I'm not so much concerned about durability but more over driveability.
The first car I tuned was a 320d 136 HP --> 165 HP: The car couldn't reach top speed. According to the chip company the fault was the Bosch fuel pump which couldn't sustain pressure. Nice to put the blame on someone else!

Second car was an A4 1,8T, 150 HP --> 193 HP; vibrations from the clutch a low speeds / more than half power applied, Manufacturer says (afterwards) that on most Quattro cars the clutch has to be replaced. Nice!!

So for me, no more chip tuning! The quality isn't good enough.

After reading the whole post, I'll still go with remaps, I disagree about the stuff that the originator said. Anyways, he's probably gone since he hasn't replied yet. Bu i want to ask, if its possible to remap a 525? I want to remap mine. If yes, wat company?
You will find no end of companies that will remap a 525 (I think all the"big guys"in the UK will do it: SuperChips, DMS, e-maps, AmD) - the question is: for what benefit? Normally aspirated engines normally need more than a remap to achieve significant power/torque improvement. OTOH, if you are after removing flat spots and a modest increase in performance, go ahead. Just choose carefully - from this thread it seems there is no lack of cowboy-ism even at the high end.

The "rest of the car" as in chassis, suspension, and - to some extent - brakes, yes. The "rest of the car" as in gearbox and transmission, not necessarily. 523i/525i seem to have the same gearbox; so do 525d/530d. Final drive ratios are different for all engines except 530d/535d, which may indicate different prop shaft/differential boxes (or perhaps simply different gears!).

Most "failed" remaps/enhancements I know of have directly affected the engine, though, and in this case parts are generally engineered to the individual engine's specs. Exceptions: deliberately de-tuned engines (e.g. E60 523i / E36 323i / E34 530iV8 / E39 535i) where probably some higher-spec components are used.

Ok, so remap was the best decision ever normally cars are beaten badly, I get now 4-5L less in town and 1-2 on Autbahn, or when much over 200km/h still better. The torque is amazing (608Nm) that beats many cars on track and the wear of components are was in service nothing bad found after some "bad a$$" Germany holiday all I know Heinz here did his best, he cud give me 310 but I dunnot wanna be skaffa he is only one. If I will get once a 535d that will have also at least 320hp. The top speed is over 260Km/h (280!!!) so when you get an oem M5 at max. 250 on the long run even that can be beaten
