Tomorrow, I am going to try to make HID reverse lights happen! Gonna also run a switch to turn it on when there's tailgaters. 35watt HIDs run cooler than 35 watt halogens. Stock 921 bulb for reverse is 18 watts.
From my research:
55 watt halogen operates 200C-600C
35 watt HID operates 40C-120C
Therefore, an 18 watt halogen bulb operates around 65C-196C
This means, it is safe to use HIDs in the reverse light and ur honestly not using it for long periods of time anyway.
However, one must run a relay to make HIDs in reverse work properly. I will also use diodes and make my own cables and switches. More on it tomiorrow. Gonna sleep.

it should last a long time since I have a manual. If installing in an automatic, a timer should be used. The HID reverse will help me 35% tints on the side and 20% tints in the back. Plus, I'm in the lighting business so I need to do it. LOL. A few customers inquired about it already since some have double limo tints.
I honestly dunno how they drive.

Are you sure about that? My kid can hit 40 degrees C with just a fever.
From some other sites:
http://www.suvlights....php?info_id=32
Expect a bulb temperature of 350-700 degrees Celsius

CAUTION: Once ignited, the pressure inside an HID bulb builds to over 30 atmospheres due to heat (up to 1500 degrees F inside the bulb!).
