I bought a set of HRE 640R recently, i'm having problems rubbing in the front. HRE first suggetsed to run this fitment 20x9 with offset of 8. When i got everything mounted and put on the car the front would rub like crazy.


After i called them about the problem. There technician's came across this fitment was for a M5.

Too make a long story short, i got my wheels back and they are now 20x8.5 offset of 14. Still rub the front when i hit small bumps on the road and driving up the driveway. They suggested a 5mm spacer. Does that make any sense in using a spacer since it's rubbing.

You should not be rubbing on a custom forged wheel. If you bought it brand new, send it back to HRE to get it fixed (should be free).

I already sent it back to them to get the offset and the lip adjusted to 8.5 instead of a 9. Yes, it is new.

It could be also the tires you are running.

You should try 245/30/20. However, the tire will be thinner than 245/35 and will have less protection to potholes. You can also roll the front fenders and get coilovers (stiff setting) to help stop the rubbing.

Do you know what the best offset is for the HRE 640R i have with no rubbing at all.

For the kind of price you're paying, you should have kept the 9" width with an offset of 20, 20x9 et20.
I certainly hope HRE refunded you some of your money for your trouble and not delivering on
exactly what you ordered.

No they have not refunded ANYTHING, and i had to pay for shipping the wheels to them. How much lip will i get off offset 20.

Not sure if this helps but certain tires seem slightly bigger than others of the same size. I had OEM 18x8 wheels with OEM Dunlop runflats. I replaced the OEM wheels with 18x8 BBS LM's (left over from my M3) with Michelin Pilot Sports in the exact OEM size. My front tires rub the inner fender slightly if I turn into a steep driveway or hill. I have tried spacers to modify the offset slightly, no luck. If I keep these wheels and replace the front tires I'm going with one size smaller. I run 18x10 rears and they seem huge but don't rub...

When you run 20's the slightest variation can cause problems

(MHS525)- i'm not exactly sure where it's rubbing, when i turn my wheel all the way left or right i see the tire touching the inner splash guards. Another member suggested to run offset of 20 but keep 20x9 instead of the 8.5 HRE suggested. Initally that's what i order was 20x9 F, 20x10 R. But the offset was really low offset 8.

So, i'm thinking of having them change it back to 20x9 and change the offset to 20 instead of 14. What do you guys think of the offset for the front?

20x9 et20 front should work, but I have no idea what size of a lip you'll end up with.
I guess it all depends if you want a wider wheel or wide lips.
