Hi all,

Anyone know how to distinguish between fake and the real thing? I've read the differences for 166 wheels but can't find anything for m172 wheels.

I will be purchasing the $1000 set off of a forum member tomorrow and just want to make sure. I don't think he is lying, but I want to make sure that he wasn't sold a set as real when they are reps- and just didn't know.

Thanks,
Mike

When I got my 166 rims I had the same concern. I called my BMW dealer and asked them if there were any markings on the rims. They actually gave me a set of numbers that were on the wheels from the factory to make sure they were OEM. Maybe if you called the dealer they can give you the part number that is supposed to be on the 167's. Worth a try...

they should be manufactured by BBS , I'm sure any tire shop could validate this or of course a BMW dealer............Good luck

There are 3 manufaturers of BMW wheels that I'm aware of, but each vendor will mark the wheels with the letters "BMW" and the partial or whole part number. Verify this number with the dealer when you get them. The 3 companies I'm aware of are:

1. BBS (Germany)
2. RonalUSA
3. Cromodora SPA (Italy)

Yes, my 172s were also marked made in AUSTRIA on the back of the wheels. What other number did you have on your 172s? So I can double check mine if you do not mind.

the new 166 and 172 wheels are made by another company I heard. Only the 167s are still made by BBS.
