I have done springs several times before (with help from mechanically talented friends), but thought I would see about paying someone to do it this time (since I will not have any more mechanically talented friends if I keep asking for favors ).

I think some of you CA folks were getting H&R's installed for around $400 (including the springs!) -- so that's only like $150 for labor. I plan to go with Eibach's but no difference for the install labor.

I have only checked 2 places so far, but don't think either has really wanted to do it. The first (a respected local independent garage and Dinan shop) wanted $730 just for labor to install springs (plus $170 more for an alignment!). Second place (who I probably wouldn't trust anyway) was Belle Tire -- saw they had a Eibach poster when getting my winter tires mounted. First they wanted $369 for the springs themselves that I can get for $240 delivered, but also $550 for labor (plus only $60 for the alignment).

What is a reasonable cost for install labor?

I was thinking I could get it done for $300 or so. If it is much higer than that I will have to go looking for some new friends!

Hehee I am one of the lucky CA folks (my labor cost is $200).
I was at the place when they did the install and took him a little over 2 hrs, granted he did several E60s before. I don't know why some of the place have places that is so out of line. When I was looking for someone for install, another place quote me like $400-500. I assume it they charge a $150 hourly rate, 3 hrs will be like that.
Shop around, hopefully you can get the install cost to be $250 or less. If not, pay your friend to do it =P

I had it installed at Carlab, which is located in Santa Clara. They have alot of experience with the E60 and I was referred to them by EuroCarFan. Their website is
www.carlabms.com

Email or call Darwin (I think he's the owner?) and let him know Kyle sends you. Where in bay area are you?
About the TMS, it's a long story. In short it affects the TMS and now I have the warning lights always on. Do a search with tire pressure sensors with my name or monacobmw and there's more details in it, or just PM me if you want more details.

What kind of wheels are you thinking about? If you get the 166, you can fit the sensors back onto the wheels. Beru is the manufacturer of the sensors, and it's attached to the valve stem. My wheels valve stem hole is a little small so it doesn't fit. Even so, some pepole mentioned they got the sensors strap onto the wheels without any problems.

i am not sure what wheels to get, but i am thinking getting it from tirerack cause it say in their site they will mount the sensor on if i buy the wheels and tires package, the senor and valve are $188 extra.
