Wait, do you have stock exhaust tips? if so, they should not be welded on.
When I modded mine to matte black, I removed them with a hammer and a half-brick sized wooden block. Place block on the tip's inner edge, gently hammer out
done.
I've never seen/heard of welded on tips on stock E60's
But yes, tips generally go over the pipe, of course. Or is this the Remus Quads that you said you "ordered" in your sig?

i have stock exhaust now, and yes i ordered remus quad, that's why i am looking for tips
try to custom make one, but not sure what size for inlet of the tip
i measure the remus pipe, inner size is 2.25" and outer size is about 2.38"
if tips go over the pipe, then i need to make sure the inner size of the tip bigger than 2.38"
any others do the same? weld tip over pipe?

OH, ok, I got you. I'd guess - just guessing though - that a tiny bit of slack will make the installation a lot easier. And since you're gonna weld them on anyway, then there is no risk of this slack working against you in any way.
