I have a 2006 550i and I want to get an M5 look from the rear. I want to either have the existing bumper modified or buy an M5 bumper and put either real working exhaust on right side of rear or dummy exhaust tips. I need suggestions on how I might accomplish this...the car already is terribly fast, I just like the look of exhaust on both sides...so either way would work with me.

Depends what you're willing to pay. The least expensive method would be to do a custom quad exhaust. Companies offering aftermarket quads include Hamann, Eisenmann, and RDSport.

I am planning on the RDsport quads for mine. They are much cheaper than the Hamann version and the Eisenmann has a false right side. I would also go with the rear M bumper available on this forum. It looks much nicer, comes to you already painted and don't forget the M5 trunk finisher piece as well.

BIG DISCLAIMER: RDSport quad exhaust for 545/550 doesn't fit perfectly with M5 rear bumper. I'm having fitment issues. Remuse spent some coin to get the right fitment. The RDSport quad exhaust is meant to fit with the M-Tech rear diffuser.

Thanks. In all my research I have not come across that information. What kind of major work are we talking about? I would like to get the RDsport quads and really wanted to get the M5 rear, but I don't know that I want to mess with major customization to get it to fit.

I have a 2008 550i with sport package coming in July and now I am confused about which way I should go.

I've spent an hour trying to sort this out. It is hard for me to believe that no one has come up with a step by step recipe for accomplishing this! I'd love to see someone "spell it out" how they did it, what they used, post photos of the conversion, etc. I'd think there would be a serious market for this conversion??? I'm just surprised that I've had so much trouble finding an answer. I'll keep working on it!

That is what I was thinking last night. We need a sticky that just deals with quad exhaust conversions and what people have done to get everything looking good. Pictures, prices and links for each product would be great. I am still bummed that the RDsport doesn't fit easily with the M5 rear.

Here is a side-by-side comparison between a 545/550 RDSport quad exhaust and M5 RDSport quad exhaust. Note how the tips on the 545i has to move about one inch to the left and right. The main problem is moving the right-sided tips over. The left isn't too much of a problem. Yes, the tips on the 545i is larger than the M5 tips. I believe they're 90mm.

So what is the verdict? Where can we find out about this potential conversion for the 08 550i on the net?

Thanks. Google turning up emtpy.
