My 07 550 sport was rear-ended and will need a new exhaust, so I wanted to look into the possibility of putting on the new 08 550 sport exhaust. The bodyshop I am using, a very reputable BMW specialist, says BMW Parts has not been helpful at all. Can anyone give me some help? I am probably going to search my area for an '08 550 sport that I can test drive right over to the shop.

Incidentally, the 07 550 exhaust is on backorder, so they can't get that one either.

note: my apologies for posting this to multiple forums, but the one I started with seems to have crashed and I have a short window of opportunity to get this info.

Is there a better place to ask such questions? I need an answer this morning and google/forum searches are turning up nothing. I found a pic of it but you can't make out the part number.

This could be your chance to get Hamann Quad outlets, cheap.

Use Search on this site or google.

If the new sport exhaust is incompatible or unavailable, I would be happy to sell you my OEM exhaust. I installed a Dinan unit on my 07' 550 sport. The exhaust was done at 4,000 miles.

The dealer price for the exhaust is $909.54. Obviously, I would sell it for much less.

Good luck,
DRP

The hamann site doesn't load any information on the exhaust. shows a picture of the tips and no text. This is an insurance repair so probably not going to try to make such a drastic change anyway.

Wow, thanks a lot.

I stopped by a dealership and had their parts guy call up BMWNA and go through the issue with them. The answer I got was that it wouldn't fit. It didn't make a lot of sense. I get the impression that the pipe is larger from the front silencers back, and that maybe it won't bolt on. I figured it would be a full replacement up to the cats so that shouldn't matter. They look identical in the pictures I saw except for the lack of backpressure valve. I am still going to try to find an 08 550 and inspect the exhaust myself, if possible.

May I ask how you were able to find this part # info?

I bet you it'll fit. All you want is the silencer (#2) which I highlighted in red. You also need the exhaust tips (#14) too. You don't need to replace any of the three resonators. The part labeled #1 is the third resonator. Honestly, if I were you I'd go and get the Remus exhaust which is about $600 and weighs a lot less. I've never heard it but from what others who have it said the Remus sounds much better than stock.
