How can I tell if OEM or replica wheel??
#1
Hi everyone,
I just bought a 2005 CPO 545i (great car) and have a question about OEM wheels. I checked out a set of M167 wheels last night at a local seller for $1500. I asked him if it was OEM and he hesitated before answering yes. Furthermore, he lowered the price $200 when I started to show no interest.(red flag??) I asked my CA and he doesn't know anything about wheels, but still tried to sell me a brand new OEM set for $$$$. What should I be looking for that distinguishes an OEM from a replica?? Thanks!

Brand new the 167s are going for about $2200. I have seen slightly used 167s sell for $1600. If the ones you are looking at are new there is ZERO chance of them being OEM. And to top it off, he offered to lower to $1300.

Apart from the BBS logo (if the wheel in question is made by BBS) all original BMW wheels carry a stamped BMW logo, normally on the inside of the wheel and also the last 7 digits of the 11 digit BMW part number.
Check the part numbers for the wheels in question on realoem and see if they are stamped on the wheels offered.

Thank you for the replies! I'll be armed w/ excellent info when I go see the rims again. If these are replicas, do you guys think I should move on the wheels if he drops it to around $1000 or just go OEM?? I had rep's on my past Japanese cars w/ no problems, but don't know about german tanks???

With these wheels, I would go OEM. Spend the extra cash for peace of mind. Plus, replica's never have the exact finish of OEM.

replica's or OEM well
1st the cost.
2nd If itis OEM bmw then look for the parts number.
3rd take a photo of the OEM and match them to the rims and see if it 100% look and finish the same, but this is sometime hard to look cos some reps are very well made

Allright guys, so I went to check out the wheels again this morning. Two wheels had 7835146 and the other 2 had 7835148 etched inside. Moreover, I did not find Germany, BMW, or BBS like some of you have mention. I did a search on this site to see how OEM and rep's would look and from the pics I've seen, OEM's spokes seem wider, but shorter. But then again, it's just pics. I can't tell in person!! If I just didn't like these wheels so much...............
