So I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of 172s and wanted to know if spacers are recommended. I know they come stock on the 550, but from what I've seen they could be pushed out more. I just don't know how much.

Thanks for the help in advance.

rear offset on the 172's is ET:32...so 10mm, 12mm or even 15mm can be done...

the search function is a great tool:

all good, use the advanced search funtion, helps to filter your search to specific sections...and use quotation marks and + symbol to connect words/phrases...

What about if I want to run a 285 rear? I like the wider looking tire in the rear.

I run 15mm spacers with OEM 128s, which are exactly the same size as the M172s.

285s should still fit IMHO, but 12mm spacers would put you on the safe side.

If you are going for 15mm on the rear, then I would also recommend 5mm spacers up front so you have the same look front and rear. Not a must do, but something I will be doing this winter when I put my 128s back on the car.

You guys with 172's, that are running spacers out back, are you running any spacers upfront?
