I received an forwarded email from bmw uk about an aux input It goes like this: Jon,

No, there is no function to have the AUX connection for the E60.

This is what BMW UK are telling dealers. I know there are people in the UK with factory fitted aux input on the 535D. Can you confirm it is a factory fit rather than an aftermarket fir.

Hi

Tell your dealer that their knowledge of their own product is NOT good enough!

The Audio AUX Input is a BMW originated add-on that is sold as a dealer-fit item. It is not factory installed at this point in time.

ANY BMW dealer can and must be able to do this because there is nothing "aftermarket" about it!!!

Which dealer are you with and what is your geographic location in the UK? I ask, because if you are close to dealers that I am familiar with, I can probably point you to a better cust service dealer!

The Aux Input CAN be installed by yourself if you are very good at DIY and you really want to disassemble your car. However, most dealers will charge about 140 pounds to do it for you.

All the Best

The worrying thing is that this came from BMW UK, not a dealer.

Do you have the name of the person you spoke to at BMW. They need educating - I'm not being sarcastic.

You can do the hardware yourself but it will not work.
The car has to be reprogrammed for the aux to work.
An extra screen will be added in the idrive.

cheers.
