I'm in the market for new rotors (thinking of going with R1 Concepts premium slotted/cross drilled) and don't know which pads to match to them. I currently run stock rotors with Axxis ddeluse pads, and while I like the minimal dust they generate, they do feel like they bite less than stock and I have to break a little harder/longer to stop. From experience, should I stay with the Axiss pads I know but with the new rotors, or change to the Hawk HPS pads people seem to like?

Also, anyone have experience with the Axxis ULT pads? They seem to have tons of stopping power but I'm concerned that they'll eat my new rotors too fast. Thanks in advance for any comments.

I have R1 Concepts slotted/cross drilled rotors and Hawk HPS pads. I like them alot. Hardly any dust on my wheels. They bite pretty good to. PM member acuteperformance (Michael). He'll hook you up.

any ceramic/low dust brake pad will cause more heat which could possible warp your rotors. That being said, I had the Axxis pads on my e60 without any issue out side of some squealing at cold stop. I've had hawk hps pads since march on my m3, no problems or noise what so ever. Both have good bite (hps slightly more IMO) and both have relatively zero brake dust....

I can't comment on the long term effects of either pad as I turned my e60 at lease end with 24K miles on it, and I barely have 3500 miles on my m3 right now.....

I am shopping for front brakes also. I did my rear pads only a year ago with Axxis Deluxe. Seem to work fine and minimal dust.

I am expecting to need front rotors.

I see a lot of different brands out there. What makes R1s better than others? If I go with an aftermarket ceramic pad, should I go with a slotted/drilled rotor to dissipate the heat? Certainly dont want a warped rotor.

thx

What a like about R1:

(1) One year warranty against defects
(2) Great customer service -- BIG REASON why I carry R1 and no other brand
(3) Competitively priced

Don't get me wrong, R1 isn't perfect, no company is which is why points (1) and (2) are very very important to me.

Get slotted/drilled for their looks only. The slots and holes are merely to release the trapped gas created from the pads which most modern pads dont release anymore. Also, I wouldn't go with a ceramic pad. The Hawk HPS is a ferro-carbon compound that produces significantly less dust than OEM but stop just as good or better. Most ceramic pads sacrifice stopping power to achieve less dust.

Hope that helped.

How do the HPS pads compare to OEM price wise?

Hawk HPS Pads
Front - $100
Rear - $82

Don't know how much OEM pads cost.
