Today bmwbonehead and his PHAT M5 came over to my house, so I could help him install his new AIB's. However, in return, not only did he let me drive that beast of a car, but he helped me hardwire my V1 into my car. For those that have the V1 and have yet to hardwire it, do it! I can't believe I've gone the last 2 years with the stupid lighter plug and mounting it on the center of my windshield. It looks clean, is out of the way and is just perfect. The install was pretty easy as well, although having his help was a huge! Thanks again bmwbonehead! Feel free to come by any time for some more DIY's at my house, as long as I get to take your car out for more test drives.

You should post your DIY guide.

Hey bmwbonehead...get on it! I believe it's already on the site and a really good one at that.

Which side do you have the V1 on? If you have it on the driver's side, I bet that soon you'll move it over to the passenger's side.

I used these instructions. Great DIY thread.

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=...&#entry5525

Only difference is that you can use the gold torx screw right to the left of the Siemens box, which is what I did for cmansbimmer. I have heard that this screw sometimes isn't grounded; if that's the case, then you can either drill a hole in the frame and make your own ground with a screw or use the (PITA) bolt shown by Don Juan in his thread (which is what I did in my car).

As far as moving it, I've had it on my drivers side since I installed it. As for moving it to the passengers side, no thanks. Would make it impossible to see what radar band is getting picked up and more difficult to hit the 'mute' button.

The ideal location for the V1 is above the rearview mirror, on the passenger side. In this position, the controls are well within reach and in plain view.... and the rear sensor gets a more unobstructed view out the rear windshield.

Not for me. Completely unobstructed and definitely more accessible than reaching over to the passenger's side.

Drivers side is great. I like it there. It's staying put.

My thoughts exactly until I took a trip to Vegas and back to LA. Heading westward the setting sun forced me to move the V1 from driver to passenger side, though ECF will say I should have had darker sunglasses.

That happened today coming back from the Hamptons, heading west. But I was able to plop the visor down enough and still hear my V1, should it start chirping. Fortunately, it didn't.
