Hi All,
I requested that my new Valentine 1 Radar detector be hardwired into the overhead console today, but the dealer advised that everything up there is on some sort of dimmer, etc. The only option they offered was snaking it down to the console--for $350 worth of labor.
I groused that in my 540, they hooked it into the mirror circuit (or looked that way) and the SA said the 540 didn't have all the power variability options that this car does.
So, where are you hardwiring detectors these days?
He tucked it in around the glove box, but it still looks like crap coming down the A-pillar.
Cheers,
Ray Hull

This forum and it's search function is your (and your dealer's) friend...

Good luck!
(Oh, and be sure to remind your dealer that the power to the map lights and the power to the garage door opener, and the power to the sunroof switch are all not on a dimmer circuit...

Ah, thanks Rudy; would never have thought to look in DIY, as I never would attempt DIY. Looks very easy, but I can't/don't see where the power cord and its chubby plug exit that overhead panel and run to detector. Anyone know, or is it obvious once you pry the panel apart?
Cheers,

I ran the cord between the headliner and the roof. Removing the torx screw holding the sun visor bracket (item 3 below) makes it easy, since you can then pull down the headliner to allow the RJ11 connector to pass through.
