Default H&R Race vs. Sport Springs

greetings everyone.
i'm trying to decide between the two springs. Ive seen some pictures of both but cant seem to make my mind up.
Id take a look at some threads comparing the two if i could find it, but Searching brings me to vendors sites to purchase..

My 2005 e60 (525) is on 19" style 166's and i want to get rid' of that wheel gap as well as being able to use it for my daily driver here in the North East.

My goal is to use the lowering springs with the oem struts that are on the car (non sport). I would really like to see some pics of both these springs installed on Non sport oem struts.

To me, it isnt all that clear if installing either of these springs on different struts, such as non sport/Sport/ or Aftermarket strut will alter the drop height.
From some pics it seems the sport springs will leave a wheel gap in the rear where as the Race springs will not leave a gap but i'm afraid of rubbing and bottoming out.
Advise,Thoughts, Opinions?
Thanks for your time
-Bill

Maybe this thread will help you out

Some other factors to take into account if you do decide to go with either is if your fenders are rolled, and tire size. I ran into this same problem back when I first bought my car. I ended up getting sport springs from there I upgraded to coilovers.

Do you have sport struts? im going to look through some posts to see if you've posted pics and or mentioned the sport pkg thing.

I ran into that thread last night while doing some googling'. I keep seeing people argue over the fact that h&r sport springs will drop the car further with sport struts vs no sport struts since sport and non sport struts have different part numbers..

the look of sport struts with H&R sport springs has me sold but confirming the drop will be identical is key.
my wheel setup is as follows. It is pretty tame/mild I think..
Front:
245 35 Zr (19x8)
Rear:
265 30 Zr (19x9)
Wheels:
Style 166 19" x 8.5/9.5 (Front/Back)

I'd really like to just get those coilovers you have for sale but im afraid of never getting them aligned and adjusted properly. Id really hate to have that extra 1/4 of an inch from the coilovers to perfect a stance to find its thrashing my tires. I understand an alignment and camber plates will be needed but i can get nearly the same look without fighting with all the other factors and still maintain a good ride quality.

I don't have sport struts as my car didn't come with the sports suspension package. I used to have MRR 20' wheels. I was running 245/35/20 in the front and 285/30/20 w/H&R sport springs. I got tired of running low profile tires and avoiding every small little pot hole in the road as I was paranoid of bending my wheels. I also did not like how the rear tire would tuck under the fender.

I sold my wheels and decided to go with OEM 166 wheels but I chose a different tire size then the typical person would 245/40/19 in the front and 285/35/19 in the rear. I got tired of running with the springs as I wanted to make adjustments to the height of the car and I couldn't. I original wanted CKS but I didn't have enough $$ at the time. I opted to go with H&R coilovers only because they were cheap! All I did was take my car to BMW for an alignment after I installed them. I never messed around with camber plates.

I came up upon a great deal for CKS which I could not pass up and that's why I decided to sell the H&R coilovers.

You will probably want to run spacers with your rear setup and possibly fender roll. I couldn't run any spacers with my setup when I had just the sport springs installed btw.

Weird for some reason I'm not receiving any notifications from threads I replied too.

Judging by your signature I would keep coilovers just change to another brand like KW. The low end coilovers on these cars do not improve the ride quality over factory.

Another thing to note: by using lowering springs with OEM style struts and shocks you will decrease the lifespan of the strut/shock. This is why I am a strong believer in coilover systems. It improves the ride quality over factory and you can choose how much wheel gap you want.

At this point I feel like the H&R race Springs are what I want to go with. I don't feel the coilovers are worth the extra expense as the car is not a daily driver. Can anyone post pics of the race Springs with oem sport struts and 20's?

The sport version of the H&R springs have a decent ride. They are a little bouncy though.

drop springs are all well and good, but depending on what kind of tires you are running with your rims, it may be bad. i ended up selling my H&R drop springs, because i was rubbing in the back, i had a 2008 535i with sports package.
