I toyed with the idea of buying an extended maintenance policy for the last several months. I did my homework and learned a lot for the various forums. One thing that came out was BMW dealers could charge what ever they wanted. Some of the prices were in the $3,000 range. Most were in the low $2,000 range with a few in the high teens.

I won?t debate if they are a good purchase or not. That has been beaten to death. I decided to go ahead and buy one. I called several local BMW dealers in the Los Angeles area and found the wide range of prices as I mentioned above. One was $1,695 plus tax. Nice try, there is no tax on these policies.

In my search, I came across a posting that recommended United BMW of Gwinnett in Duluth Georgia. The Internet Sales Manager, Justin Hoisington, handles the sales of the extended maintenance policy for the dealer.

I sent him and email with the year (2006), Model (530I) and mileage (33,000) and he quickly emailed me back a price of $1,695. I sent him the key with a credit card authorization form that he emailed me and it was a done deal. I have no affiliation with Mr. Hoisington besides being a satisfied customer.

I have been contemplating the purchase of this extension myself. What were the factors that made you want to pay for it? What services fall in the 50-100k period that make the extension worthwhile?

I wasn't aware that you can purchase the extension anywhere, so it doesn't need to be from a local dealer, but any any dealer is acceptable? That's a great price and through this out of state dealer you can take your bmw to your local dealership correct?

I have never had the brakes touched on the car. That alone will offset a lot of the cost. It is good for 2 years and up to 100K miles. Same as the 4 yr 50K maintenance. It is all off of the iDrive.

You can purchase it at any dealer and have it serviced at any dealer.

Brilliant. I would like to encourage others to obtain quotes and post them here. This may turn in to a "sticky."
I was quoted $2,695 by Crevier BMW in the Los Angeles area - no go.

Can someone list exactly what is covered in those 2yrs 50k-100k?
If I were to get BBKs, I guess this is not worth it right away?

Thanks

I believe i paid 2200 for my extension. i have 55,000 miles presently. inspection II is 60,000 which i believe is covered under the extended maintances program. i believe brake change, oil change, wiper blades, inspections II and III are included.

Sounds about right, I got mine for 1695 as well. Definitely paid for itself.

I remember when it was $1,195.00, before BMW raised the price.
