I wondered if anyone new of a retailer selling the glove box auxiliary power adapter ( basically a torch with a cigarrette lighter socket) in the uk, there seems to be plenty on ebay.com but none in the uk

Thanks

Nick

Here in the States, you can get it from any BMW parts department. If they don't know what you are talking about, the part # is 82 11 0 004 073. Hope that helps.

To confirm what part silver530sportwagon is talking about, take a look at the following thread:

Is that the one you're looking for?

Just been through this! I tried to order the part number from a couple of local dealers. Neither of them could retrieve it and one of them suggested the part had not been homologated for use in Europe. I guess this means us Europeans can't be trusted with such a dangerous piece of kit

Anyway I got mine off Ebay from a company in the US called Bimmerbum (yeah really) that ship to the UK. Arrived in about 7 days, nice bit of kit, works a treat and probably cheaper than I could have got it from a UK dealer at about ?10

A search on Ebay should find it but let me know if you have problems.

Cheers for the suggestions, looks like ebay it is!!

It seems very odd that bmw dont do this part inthe UK as it seems a most usefull way of providing fairyly neatly concealed power to things without hacking into your wiring harness

Again thanks again

None of these are listed as compatible with the e60. Has anyone in the UK bought these and found them to work on the e60.

Yep as I said above, it works perfectly in my E60. As I recall the documentation clearly mentions it "supports" the E60

Speculation on my part but I have noticed that the lead is permanently powered regardless of whether the ignition is on. I can't beleive US E60 torch (flashlight) sockets are any different but maybe this explains why you cannot get it in Europe

Silly question here I do not have a torch in my car but went to have a look at the connnector in the car to check which of the aux adapters I need and when I look I cannot see any circular holes as I can in my wife 92 3 series torch connector.

Mine just looks like a rectangular piece of plastic inside a rectangular hole with no connoctor holes in the centre plastic, so the question I have is do you think mine has a cover over the connectors as it has never had a torch inside it?

BMW cheapskated me and I didn't get a torch with my new E60 530D (which p*ssed me off no end since I'd had one in my three previous new 5 series). However, not a problem, cause it just meant my last E39 went back without one. I can confirm the E39 torch def fits the E60 fine.

I'd offer to go and check what I see right now but my car is in for some work for a few days. As far as I recall I had no covers, all you could see is rectangular slot with two pins.
