I was thinking of getting my SA a gift as he has gotten BMW NA to pay for $2500 in repairs ( alternator, head gasket ) while my car has been out of warranty and they were really under no obligation to do so at all. He always gets me a loaner, usually a Bimmer, and picks up the 25 dollar charge that the dealer now charges. Also lets me keep the loaner for up to a week or more if I happen to be out on business when my car gets finished. Would a gift be appropriate? If so, what? Any and all thoughts and opinions welcome

Obviously, a free subscription to e60.net would be most appropriate.

Really though, he may not be allowed to accept gifts. The thing he would most appreciate is five stars.

My Ride: 2004 545i - Bone stock... help!

It's appropriate, and a good idea. Last Eid (after last Ramadan) I gave a huge basket of sweets to the garage that works on my car, for all their help over the year. I plan a repeat this year.

hmm.. so he seems real nice.. well.. considering hes not in AA meetings maybe a real nice bottle of something? lol..

otherwise maybe a gift card to a nice steakhouse restaurant or something?? unless he's a vegan? ugh
A letter like the one member here has done is a fantastic idea--especially if it talks about why you and all your family members like the dealership. I would not specify in the letter that he 'gave away the ship.' That would hurt him.

I drive past my dealership regularly, and I regularly bring him a lunch (bbq, tacos, etc.) Sometimes, I have found nice steaks on sale, and I bring him one or two.

In regard to gift certificate, I suspect the service writers are not the richest people in the world, so I sometimes give a Walmart gift card--good for anything, gas, food, pharmacy, etc.

It does not hurt to take a lunch to service mgr also. He/she is the one with the real authority. I sometimes just put a lunch in front of him, say hi, and walk out.

There are a couple of mechanics that I have known for years. I sometimes take them cokes, or ice cream, or snacks. (I then get tons of free mechanical advice.)

BTW, I mess with all kinds of cars, and I know a 'truckload' of dealership(s)' people. (GM, Ford, BMW, etc.) I visit them regularly, and most of the stuff I drop off is just small stuff. In return, I seek print-outs for repairs, advice on working on various cars, small nuts and bolts, more advice, and then more advice. I try not to be a PITA (pain in the @ss). The goodies help avoid that title. Sometimes, I will drop off a few candy bars for the mechanics and announce: "George, thanks for the sexual favors last night." All of the other mechanics are then rolling on the floor.

HAHA! Do they make gift cards for that?

I have given things like $50 gift cards to Applebee's and TGIFriday's because in talking with the guys I know they like to go to those places. I also make sure to send a letter to the general manager in which I discuss the great service. BMW is big on feedback, and I have been told that the manager will read the letters that customers send during office meetings and I can only imagine that leads to 1.) others trying to emulate great service and 2.) the SA getting a good performance review.

I believe this is the right way to treat people. It does show our respect and appreciation. If we're doing it from the bottom of our heart, it'll be priceless
I've done this way with engineers in the team when I run a project, and their output is 120%. Any engineers is willing staying in the office pass 2am in the morning? My team did.

But if I breathed on their throats to get thing done, I'll get 90% done with lousy quality. And when company gets reorganized, and you got moved to a different position, people would be very happy.

Anyway, drop him a Target or Walmart gift card here and there. Learn what he likes to drink at Starbucks and get him a VENTI. Not tall or grande .

It works everytime!!!

Since i'm not much of a drinker and i'm allergic to coffee i would be stoked to get a $100 best buy or home depot gift card. Guys love gadgets. And if he does not like gadgets he can always regift it to someone.
