After seeing an advertisement feature for carbon fiber roof skins in performance BMW magazine from Geoff Steel Racing http://www.geoffsteel.co.uk/ , I decided to check them out. Alongside their many racing services, including full race car sales, they also have a fabrication department producing light weight body panels and airboxes.
Unfortunately they mostly specialize in 3-series and 1-series parts. So I ended up getting a hold of Will Fields and after emailing back and forth he said that if there is enough interest in a carbon fiber roof skin for the E60 they would make it.
The roof skin would be a direct replacement of the factory skin, but would not include the opening for the sunroof. Eliminating the sunroof (Weight saving). Pricing will be roughly £550+vat ($912 USD + Taxes). I'm still waiting for an estimate on shipping to North America. He also said that the more pre-orders they get the cheaper it will be.
Anyone interested?
