I am trying to install my gateway 500 using the dension instructions and I've also been looking at muttley's posted diy. Have the cdc out and connection unplugged. Im now ready to do the fiber optics and power.
The old and new directions from dension don't seem to agree. Also muttley's diy looks different from one of the dension instructions and the bmw connections on his pics look different than mine. Don't want to start without the right plan.

I have a 2005 545i (build date of 7/05) I have CCC nav and CDC (have mp3 coding done).

The diagrams don't help me much because I can't tell which of the stock wires are where. there is a cartoon of gps, radio etc, then the cdc and the gateway all as sources. I still can't get where to start and which wire to disconnect or splice from the stock clip for the cdc.

No guide for power either. Im guessing I have to splice the stock power cables to those provided by dension but with my own connections?

Help please

Depending on the version of GW500 you have the latest will have 2 MOST fiber in/out port while I think muttley's DIY is based on the older GW500 module that only has 1 MOST fiber port... if you are using the dual port one use http://www.dension.com/download.php?file=g...nstallguide.pdf for the instruction (or the one that came w/ your GW500 pkg).

Not sure if you going to keep the CDC or not but follow either step #2 or #3, and you have to splice the power yourself and highly recommended to use the feed from CDC power cord as it'll put the device to sleep when its time.

GL!

Thanks for the quick reply. I definitely have the dual most port version and Im keeping the cdc. I have been poring over the instructions for and diagram in 2a but cant figure out how that applies to which stock optic cable to remove (the one with arrow going into the cdc or the one coming out) and what to connect to (the orange cable set tagged cdc side or Car side). 2a has no directions re removing or splicing. Am I supposed to take certain begining steps from install type 1 and apply that to 2a (if so up to what point).

I used to think I was good at this type of stuff but I feel like an idiot wtih the gateway diagram.

You undo the fiber that goes to the CDC and plug it to the input of GW500 (car side) and the output from the GW500 (CDC side) goes to the OEM CDC.

You have to probably play around w/ the fiber jumper & plugs provided in the GW500 pkg to mix-'n-match the ends.
