Hi guys,
Anyone knows if it is possible / difficult / any other problems or remarks on the idea of fixing an original E60 M5 quad into E60 diesel (520d in this case)? Anyone has done that?
The reason I am asking is that I came accross a M5 quad from a wrecked car but in a very great shape (about 10K kms) + the original rear bumper also in a quite good shape (M5 was only hit in front).
Both for very reasonable prices compared to any aftermarket alternatives.
I know it won't give much to my 163 HP tractor-engine in terms of performance, but for the great looks and hopefully some good, deep sound I guess I could spend these ???...
Anyways, thanks for your feedback!

A quad exhaust on your ride would look awesome! I hope some technical mastermind can help you get that sorted
You joining us at the Meet?
EDIT: Just saw that you signed up
Good stuff... you now have just over a month to get your quads fitted

I'm with the above poster... any technical masters here who could answer this question... Also, I wonder if it won't make the diesel engine more 'rattley' or change the sound in a negative way....?
If not, I'd be interested to try! heheheh

I just remembered the post that Tiago posted up about his Eisenmann exhaust system that he fitted to his beast of an E61. This is the post and the quote from Tiago that struck me as being relevant to your questions "I always said to myself that i would only do the quad if i could match the M5 eisenmann race exhaust, and i think that i did it - E61 M5 with Eisenmann race exhaust look".
Maybe you can contact Tiago to find out more??
Otherwise do a search for quads -- I am pretty sure that we have a Malaysian (??) member with a black m-sport 520d who has fitted quads

Thanks a lot, Pete!!! You're always there to help!!
Anyway, I looked around the forums and the thing is that most of the people either a) fix some aftermarket quads or b) modify their E60 a lot.
And I would simply need to know if a genuine M5 part will fit and work without any further modifications
(original M5 quad has a slightly different shape and size compared to any aftermaret quads - if I understood it right so far)
But anyway, I was gonna ask at the dealer's when I go for oil service in September,
but I am just affraid they will stare at me there (again...
) like I am crazy, posing this "type of questions... "

The OEM M5 exhaust willnot fit unless you completely remove your trunk floor pan and replace it with the M5 pan. On the right side of the pan in your car is the battey box, which leaves zero room for the OEM exhaust. Better doing an aftermarket exhaust...Cheaper that way too...

There's no room for quads on the right side of the car. Heavy modding needed. If oyu just bend over on the rear right of your car, and see the spot where the right tips would go, you'll come to find that there's no room.

Thanks a lot guys for the info!
Dissapointing it is a bit, but .. better ask ahead of time then be sorry afterwards...
Thanks again, perhaps I will consider the aftermarket solution then if that's the way things are...
but what attracted me to the original M5 quad in the first place was its price (about 300 EUR for that complete genuine quad I mentioned in the post) + about 250 EUR for the rear bumper which even after fitting and painitng would still make it a good deal...
