my memory is a bit foggy. according to the diagram below, which pin is the "LED light rods"?
for the leftside, is it pin 4 (tail light)? or the tail light is a combination of the light rods + light bulbs?

...I think this would also work.

I found this auction on Ebay, the new 2008 tail lights by roveractive. He mentions a retrofit cable set in which you will need to modify the connectors and he includes a diagram for that. I would contact him, he might be able to help with the install.

Exact quote in auction (Its in green type on the auction):

"*In order to retrofit these to a 2004-2007 E60 you need a retrofit cable set which is not shown but included with this purchase. You will also need to modify the connectors for which you will be provided a diagram to follow.*"

will roveractive be supplying these to the GB people ?
I don't mind doing some modifying but we need SOMETHING to modify!! ie. a retrofit cable ! I am not impressed he is supplying this cable after he shipped out $13500 of merchandise only a week ago without one...
I feel I would like to write to him, but I'll wait and see if Alex can lobby for this.

Tailight bulb is pin# 7 on both sides.
Tailight LEDs is pin# 4 on left side - pin#3 on right side.

Nick and I will be checking out an LCI to see it's light operation in detail...

thanks nick for clarifying the pins. can't wait for the tail lights to arrive on monday.
i notice roveractive increased the tail light price to cover the cost of including the cable.
i recall seeing the price on ebay cheaper a week ago.

Guys, do you think with retrofit cable it will work as LCI model? As advertised here:

Since its completely different look of what we have now. At this point I cannot even tell which is better old style tails or new tails with stop lights always on.

RoverActive is watching the progress of this thread. Whatever we come up with is what you will get.

I will try to measure with a 9V battery the turn, and tail LEDs amperage to find out which of them are 12V or 6V. Turn lights are 12V so they must give no more than 70-80 mA. If tail LEDs are made for 6V then they must give 170-190 mA

Nick I think all of them will be 12V. My theory is BMW have connected 9 LEDs in series to make them take the 12V load. Thats the reason why you have 18 LEDs in the turn light. Also explains why they 'suddenly' choose to put 4 LEDs on the sides of the taillights because 5 are for the Light rods.

Bruce.
