So here it is:

I'm starting to get the mod. bug......and its all because of you guys and me hanging out on this forum..!!! Damn you guys!!!

I was thinking of changing the exhaust and putting something that will enhance the sound and possibly performance? the latter not being that important to me.....

I saw a couple of video clips of E60s with upgraded exhaust and loved the sound they made!!

I definitely don't want anything that will make this beautifully engineered vehicle sound loud and obnoxious but a little extra "purrrrr" wouldn't be bad!

So here's my first question:

1. I have a 530 which as you all know is an inline six and not an 8....would I benefit from a exhaust upgrade or is the sound of a 6cyl. too "wimpy" to mess with?

2. Are there any waranty issues with BMW when you mess with things like the exhaust on your car?

3. Any recommendations against exhaust upgrades?

4. How complicated is the instal process...does this require major work or is it a pretty simple mod to have done?

Thanks in advance...!

Unless you want to make a big deal of it, you will be getting only a muffler upgrade. Your sound should be improved provided you don't end up with annoying resonance at any RPM. You will get no noticeable or measurable performance increase IMO. You should not have any warranty problems. Muffler upgrades are easy, but the measurements required must be done precisely. I would not do a muffler upgrade if resonance would be a by product in any gear at any RPM. Muffler upgrades usually are easily reversed--particularly if a clamp, rather than welding, is used.

just to add to what znod said,

no an i6 is not too wimpy to start with. bmw is known for their i6 engines and many ppl prefer the sound of an i6 engine to a v8.

no issue with warranty unless the aftermarket part causes another oem part to fail. then bmw will say your aftermarket part caused it so they won't cover the damaged oem part. if its just a muffler, any failures will be unlikely.

installation consists of cutting the oem pipe between the stock muffler and last resonator. then you weld or clamp the new muffler to the pipe. takes any competant shop about an hour to do.
