There are two sets of resonators on this car - most cars will only have one. Resonators do not add much back pressure. They are typically a inner tube with holes drilled in it, wrapped with an outer tube that has some type of insulation. They are designed to remove the harmonic drones that can occur at particular rpms (basically they remove the resonant frequencies of the exhaust and make it quieter, when used in conjunction with a muffler.
There are two tube resonators just towards the front of the car that almost look like catalytic converters.
Then there is a box resonator that is at the rear differential.
Unfortunately it is not an easy/cheap task to play with the options. Further, when judging sound, it is so subjective to personal preferrence.
I think the safest route for adding more sound or lowering backpressure is to start with changing the muffler.
On the 545i/550i, the exhaust is pretty good for flow, so you are not going to see huge gains. It really becomes a sound/looks issue.
