How much louder would the exhaust be if I take out both the Resonators?

This is what my 645 sounds like with Eisenmann race exhaust and both resonators bypassed . Not sure it'll sound the same on your 550i.

hey hamman5, what did you do to your exhaust, that thing sounds nice for 525i. I have a 530i awaiting transport and am wondering how to make my car sound like that, i also am thinking about doing quad exhaust and replacing the rear bumper. So where are the resinators and did you replace the muflers or tips or what did you do, sorry but i am illeterate with muffler systems. Thanks for the input.

The first two resonators (side by side - one in each pipe just after the cats) have the most impact. The second box resonator near the rear differential has less impact.

However, if you want more sound, I would change the mufflers dependent on how much sount you want, NOT the resonators. The resonators typically take out the annoying harmonics (the drone at highway speeds).

After I installed my Hamann exhaust, I wanted a little more noise and consider taking out the box resonator near the differential. I was advised by someone who did this, that there was noticable drone during highway driving.

I like some sound, but don't want to ruin the smooth purr of the engine when on the freeway.

this is my friends 3 but its pretty much the same setup as mine but on the 3 the resinator has 2 exit pipes ours only has 1.. so what we did was cut everything off from the end of the resinator and ran a pipe in the old ones place.. then we drilled a hole in that pipe and ran it over to make it quad

the v8 cars are different. here's a pic that was posted on this forum some time ago, hope its ok for me to repost it. front resonator is the 2 canisters, rear resonator is the rectangular box.

so the resenators are the cans?? SO the v8 has two in the middle and then that big one in the rear. The i6 has 1 and you just replace that or what, i am confused with this muffler stuff. I thought that the muffler was the tip and the can that comes with it>>?? Thanks
