Like the title says, its strange that my cars exhaust is louder at 3-4rpm and then kinda quietens down above that. Almost becomes stock sounding. For references sake, if I rev the car, at 4k rpm, a decibel reading might be say, 105 db. At 5rpm, its about 95db. Is it just me or
should high RPM be louder?

I have a custom exhaust, but I'm guessing it shouldn't really matter since even with any sort of muffler, higher RPM should STILL be louder or just as loud as lower rpms? Someone please correct me on this as this is mind boggling.

i am also thinking about the same thing. I am thinking we hear the engine more than the exhaust up top.

no not always... At 3k or where ever it so happens to be at the ideal reasonance to generate a lower rumble than at higher rpms

are you just free-reving the car to measure db?

try it with the engine under load(driving).
