Man, this is awesome... I've always wanted a louder exhaust and all I have to do is keep open a valve? Best of all it's a FREE mod!

Notice any performance difference before and after? If you like ithe result, I'll put mine back to how it was(before the wife complained about the sound , which I liked anyway ) coz you're da man! Will you let us know, good or bad? Thanks.

I haven't attempted the mod yet. Will try this weekend.

I tried it a couple of years ago. My advice is do not waste your time. I went from that mod to removing the large resonator. I ended up putting both back and adding a sport exhaust.

A did this mod and while I got a little little more exhaust gowl I noticed the low end torque was suffering. meaning from accelerating from stop i felt (butt dyno) the engine needed a bit more effort..so i revert back to stock and the car feels strong again in all power bands...
in my opinion after trying left and right with perfomrnace mods in the E60 and reading all of you guys.. WE CAN NOT ACHIEVE ANY PERFORMANCE UNLESS WE HAVE A SOFTWARE PROGRAMMING. The computers in our E60s are too advanced and has zensors in every cojones in this car so it adjusts automatically if it feels more back pressure or more air intake. So all the $$$ in the mods we spend is just for looks and listening... my 2cents.
the only mod that will work is weight so unless I convert my car into a race car, then the weight savings are also limited to spare tire and wheel/tires combination.
ps: See posts of hollywoodtrash and his super expensive exhausts and even Znod with all his testings.

Man, what a killjoy JDN and Don Juan did! :'(

I don't want anything to negatively affect the low end torque. If I did this mod that would mean that EBMCS03's lil' IS350 will beat the tar outta me...

I like a louder exhaust but not at the expense of performance which would be the case here.

its an always closed actuator. when there is pressure in the line, it is open....

so, when you disconnect it, it is always gonna be closed...

it is the compete oposite of a 330ci...

you have to find someway to prop it open for good

I'm surprised here Znod has not made any comments ... if you check his extensive testing using a tool (GTECH pro or something like that) for time capture performance, perfomrance mods acutally affect your car performance. he had a dinan intake, throthle body, exhaust plus light weigt wheels and his runs were a bit worst in the low end but jsut a tad better on the top end ...

I have modded all my bmws and every mod made a difference but all that stopped with the older versions (ie:E46 adn E39s). this new ones are too advnced and the computer will compensate for the extra air, exhauast flow, etc we add.
I'm hoping for Dinan or a well know local shop here (Active Autowereke) to have a software avaialble. If they have one for the M5 why not ours

I thought I would bump this post back up and ask for your advice.

I had a look at this actuator on my 03 vehicle.

I got my wife to change the revs on the car (whilst in N and stationary)

The valve position did not change at all, from tickover up to 5k!

the question is, should the position change when the car is stationary, or do you need to be moving?

pinching the vac pipe also has no affect.

the actuator arm can be moved by hand, but it does require some effort - do you think the actuator is too stiff?

I am out of my AUC warranty soon and am constructing a list of possible warranty issues.
