This a question for the members outside the US.
Recently I bought a 525d E61 with the 3.0 ltr engine 197 bhp.

Planning for an aftermarket quad exhaust and remapping , I wondered how the sound would be.
Is it like a petrol engine or different?
Any disadvantages, like loss of power in the low powerband?

Your replies please, I'm curious.

There will be more advantages than disadvantages regarding power obviously, sound on a quad setup might not be bad - but it's nothing like a petrol sound....

on my (now crashed)525d i had a eisenman. You dont hear anything....exept on full trotle respons in low rpm you here a very cool V6 grouming on a low bass frequency. I kinda liked it. Not to disturbing but with a very sporty feeling about it.

I am hoping to save up for the hamannn quad witch i think will be even better on my lci 525d i have ordered

A little different : you can put a less strangled (than stock) exhaust and, in theory, you should gain something ... But I know there are some filters you haven't unmount, otherwise you risk to loss A LOT of power .
(my map-man has a 330d E90 ... He tried to take FAP (or another filter, I don't know) away and he lost power .
