I just bought a used 550i, and I dont like the look of the one sided exhaust. Have any of you modified your 5 series to look like the m5 quad exhaust look. If you have did you do it aftermarket or did bmw do it for you? The used car manager here in San Antonio told me the spare tire is in the way so that is why there is only 1 sided exhaust pipes.

What's Dual Exhaust?

I'm kidding.

There are a few kits out there,

Do a search for Quad exhaust or Quad M5 bumper and you'll see a bunch of posts.

Good luck.

I've got two custom borla exhausts for my car.

Is the 2004 the same body style as the 2008? Also I am new to this forum, where do I go to do a search?

It's correct that the spare tire compartment and battery compartment do not leave enough room for a regular BMW muffler on the right side, but regardless there are some options out there.

1. RD Sport makes an exhaust specifically to fit the 545/550. The right muffler is a small oval muffler tilted on it's side in order to fit in the 5 inch or so space that there is in between the spare tire compartment and the battery compartment. The RD Sport setup is however very expensive.

2. Many people on this board have used universal oval mufflers (Borla, Magnaflow, etc......usually 4" x 9") and have had the right muffler installed on it's side (like the RD Sport) in order to fit.

3 There is also the Remus Quad setup which is made for the 6 cylinder E60's, but at lease one 550 and one 545(mine) have this setup on the car. This setup has one muffler on the left side and a pipe that runs from that muffler to the tips on the right side. The right tips are actually functional (unlike some others that have dummy tips on the right), however, they put out less exhaust than the left side.

4. Hamann makes a quad setup for the 550 where there is a full sized muffler on the left side and a mini muffler that feeds the right side tips (housed within the bumper area of the M-Tech bumper), but this is also expensive.

There are MANY threads on this board on quad setups, their problems (like droning, etc.) and some solutions. Try to search for these threads and ask more questions as they arise and we'll try to answer them for you. You can click on "search" on the upper right and then click on "more search options".....then type "quad exhaust" in the "Search by Keywords" field on the left and click the "perform the search" button below.

Good Luck and welcome to the board.
