sorry if this is the wrong section or has been discussed -- yes, i did a quick search!

so i'm at our local car toys picking up a escort 9500ix, and one of the dudes there says something to the effect of "... newer high end cars like porche, bmw and mercedes have metal in the glass for the rain sensor which interferes with the detetector. if so, there should be a little sticker or emblem etched into the glass, and if you see it, you must hardwire the detector." is that true, or was he pushing a service?

i don't see anything in my glass, and there doesn't seem to be anything directly referencing this on the web either...

many thanks! hope ya'all had a great thanksgiving!!

Your detector should be fine through the windshield. Mine works fine. There's something in the manual warning against hard-wiring detectors on our cars....

I have an escort 9500i that is hardwired next to my rear view mirror. No problems at all, it gives me plenty of notice as far as I can tell. I just keep it mounted just below the tint on the windshield. Plus it seems to work the same as before I hardwired it as well. I just preferred the clean look.

No, I have a cheaper Cobra, but it has served me well and I only really need it on highways as I am a very cautious driver on the side roads. There are way too many kids playing on side roads and I wouldn't want to have one of them on my conscience.

I just got a Beltronics GX 65 and I used the 12v socket in the passenger footwell. Just run the wire across the top of the windshield and down the A pillar, works great and no cutting wires.
Escort and Bel are the same company now and I think the 9500ix is the same detector as mine.

It defies logic that hardwiring a detector will magically affect the transmission properties of metallicized glass.
