Yesterday I spoke with the Service Manager at my local BMW dealer regarding problems with the shifting of my 2006 550i. Although he was unaware of any specific changes to the BMW engine software he stated, quite clearly, that there is no separate transmission software and that it was a single software upgrade AND that updating the software to the current version is the first thing they always do in these situations.

However.....

I recently had Eurobahn "chip" my car. Does anyone know if the software update from the dealer will kill the Eurobahn changes?

Also, does Eurobhan (or any other "chipper") have a "copy" of the current E60 software that they just modify with their changes or do they simply take whatever software I have and update it?

I would appreciate any help or insights.

Well, I can only provide a personnal experience.
My car had 2 month since delivery when I let "remap" the software.
In June, I went to my dealer for an upgrade on the I-drive stuff (which required a full reprogramming) and my extra horses were "gone" !
I just went back to the "preparator", who kept (license plate number) my modified cartography on his PC. It took about 20 minutes to reset everything (free of charge - which seems Std).
Yesterday, back to the dealer for a software upgrade (voice ctrl) but this time, nothing has been "killed".

I hope it helps...

Enjoy

I was pretty sure they can just update certain sections of the car like the tranny alone... or update EVERYTHING in the car... i'm not 100% sure though.

There's the transmission chip and the ECU chip. If they flash the ECU chip, you will need to go back to Eurobahn.

I found this out this week from Singh Autosport who is remapping my ECU. They provide 2 Free re-flashes, should the dealer reupdate the ECU for whatever reasons.
