Congrats Nick ! what an awesome mod, glad it went well for you

have you chipped tuned it already ?

Engine works, even smells like new ...M54 smooth/velvet sound, very happy with it, Thanks!

No Andy, DME just has the factory 3.0L programming, but today I hit 265 Km/h in Attiki Odos (M5 cluster) ...I wonder where is the 250 km/h speed limiter?

I thought I'd have to replace the differential with a 3.15 or 3.07 but with my 520i 3.38 diff, car pulls so nice from a stop, consider that according to this absolutely reliable gearing/rpm/speed calculator and the 520/530 gearing (they sharing the same gearbox) 1st= 4.35, 2nd= 2.496, 3rd= 1.665, 4th= 1.23, 5th= 1.00 and 6th= 0.851, the expected 7500rpm rev limiter (with the appropriate goodies and engine management tuning) will give + 1000rpm what means around 270km/h in 5th gear or 320km/h in 6th gear instead of 234 and 275 accordingly with 6500rpm (factory speed limiter) what more or less means that +1000rpm = about 1 more gear gain..

Congratulation, Nick!!!
You're the first individual in the world do the engine swap!!! Salute!!!
There is some 4.8L engine for sale roughly 7K on ebay. Someone should do it
It was not me Fred, I was the 3rd person (the helper) but we composed a great team, consider that we started at about 14.30 (1st post/7th pic) and at 18.30 engine was revving with every single bolt and cover in place. Not even one little scratch in the engine bay, or elsewhere, not even a single bolt or washer loss or remaining. A factory like, super clean job.

I would like to say again many Thanks to my friend Manolis (the BMW service shop owner ....what a BMW lover this guy is..) and his assistant Alex, for the absolutely amazing outcome!!!!

hey Nick, are you going with the ESS TS3 twin-screw s/c. I am thinking of getting an Active s/c made for the e46 3.0l engines, what do you think? thanks

Awesome Nick! that's just crazy. I wish I had the time and garage to do this. Also the money.
Thanks

I too don't have enough of any of those, that's the reason why it took me so long. Engine was sitting on a palette for almost 2 years.
