Yesterday I put my 12mm spacers on the rear M5 offset OEM 166 wheels and am really pleased with how it came out. Many thanks to all yf you for providing input/feedback on my many questions along the way.
I wish to lower slightly....I am choosing Eibach ProKit given that its a closer to stock ride and a more subtle drop (I want to minimize risk of rubbing)...
Question: I have heard you need to change shocks as stock will be consumed quickly, when you change springs. Anyone put on Eibach Prokit springs and not change shocks? Please share your experience. Thanks

Since you are changing out springs, and if your car is a little older, then dfinitely change out the shocks so you can do it all in one shot.
Also changing out the shocks will help make the car feel firmer / sportier ride.

My Ride: 530I Silver gray with gray leather with Premium Package, Logic 7 Premium sound system with Ipod interface, xenon adaptive headlights, Active steering, Power retractable rear sunshade, Comfort seats, Cold weather package and M5 OEM 166 wheels, Sprintbooster. Ceramic Tint all around, Bilstein Sports shocks with Eibach springs, Brake performance Rotors and Axxis ceramic pads.
I am currently on the same project. I just got all the necessary parts I needed. I went with Eibach pro kit spring and Bilstein sports shocks. I will probably have it installed next week if, my schedule permits. After a long research, I decided to change the shocks as well so it complement for a better handling. GL with your project.

Eventually you will need to replace your shocks when using lowering springs. The best thing to do is replace them with shock/strut combos or coilovers, all at the same time.

I would say depends on how many miles you got on the stock springs and if the extra cost of shocks is going to break the bank or not. If you can aford the shocks now then you will save in terms of labour in the long run, but if youdon't want to spend on the shocks now you need to know that the springs will speed up the wear on your stock shocks so sometime down the road you will have to change the shocks and pay for labour costs again. It should not cost any extra for springs and shocks as opposed to just springs in terms of labour.
Long story short if your stock shocks are getting old then I say buy shocks now and save the extra labour cost later. If you don't have many miles on the stock shocks then just do the springs for now and wait till your shocks give out beofre changing them.

I have 30,000 kilometers or about 19,000 miles on my stock shocks. Deos that typically represent alot of life left (i.e. replace later and simply go with springs only)?

I had about 25k miles when I lowered my non-sport with eibachs and went a good 20k miles before having to replace the shocks, went with the bilstein sports. +1 you will need to replace them eventually, the lowered stance will not stop from wearing the stock shocks a little quicker. or as others have suggested, with coilovers you wouldnt need to worry and have the comfort of adjusting the ride height, more expensive but well worth the mod.
