So, I love the handling and drive of a lowered car, but I wanted to find out some of the long term effects of lowering springs. So, for the people who have lowered their cars, please help.

I've read that the springs would reduce the life of the OEM shocks. Does anyone know roughly by how much?

And how much would tread life be reduced?

Any other negative effects that I may have missed?

I'm probably going to go with the Eibach Pro-Kit because it has the least drop and wouldn't have to make any other adjustments such as rolling or camber.

Thanks for any help!

Mike, I was so distracted by your avatar I completely stopped reading your post and just stared at the ass. Hahaha. Who is that btw?

In response to your questions, you're worrying too much! Sport suspensions are designed to work with OEM shocks so the wear and tear should be fairly close to stock.

Tread life will only be reduced because you'll be able to take those corners harder with the stiffer suspension!

Now go lower your car now!

How many mils or km do these OEM shocks last before they brake down and need to change them?

I can't speak with authority on BMW shocks, but I had H&R sport springs on my Honda for about 80k miles before I got rid of it and the shocks were still as good as the day I put the springs on.

Yeah if you just get springs they will reduce the life of the OEM shocks. Depending on the conditions of the road, like the ones in the Northeast they terrible, your struts will probably go out around 50,000 mile mark. I have the sports suspension and my front struts blew about 25,000 miles after I put H&R sport.
The camber will change no matter what. whether you drop it a little or not, and it can never be perfect. Expect tread life 25,000 miles.
Lowering springs also has effects on the control arm bushings and the rods, again after quite some time. Ideally you wanna get coil overs ($$$), but if you go with springs, get koni struts too

but if you don't plan on keeping the car for more than 50k miles, than yeah go for the eibach. I know lots of people who used it and say its worth it

Thanks for the info. I'm planning on keeping my car for the long haul (100,000 miles at least). I'm taking out my Eibach springs this weekend. When you say the camber won't be perfect, will I have that issue if I swap my OEM springs back in?

I'm planning on getting an alignment afterwards. I do plan on getting new wheels, so I may just get a strut setup instead of just swapping springs.

Thanks

If you put the OEM springs back in it won't be an issue, but yeah do get an alignment if you put OEM back in cuz you need alignment whenever you lower or raise.
