I heard its detectable, and when they upgrade your car software, ecu might also be flashed back to stock too unless you got a separate independant remap unit that intercept the stock wires. e.g motec, powermod, microtech, ect.

Correct me if I am wrong...

Most remaps are not detectable by the dealer, apart from seat of the pants detection when the technician test drives it.
It is detectable by BMW Germany however, not that they are often likely to have your ECU in for inspection.
A software upgrade will overwrite a remap, most remappers will re-do the work for free.

it is said an ecu remap is undetectable. dealer never knew i had mine, and ive never had any software upgrade. if you have a remap and it is overwritten by a software upgrade, you could always have your e60 "remapped". some vendors may have a small fee to do a re-download of the remap though.

not at all, unless the technician takes out and about and knows the difference, but otherwsie for a service there should be no problem, i have had my humble 520d remapped and have had no probs with two service from dealer BMW .
so dont worry is my experience here.

Pls think ... If they would tell you something about remap .. Which would be the first thing you would do ?
You would change dealer .. So even they notice the remap ...Let them notice ..

Depending on the tuner they are not detectable with the dealers standard diagnostic equipment on a service. Good tuners make sure the flash counter doesn't get triggered and also keep the software ID the same.
They can, as said before, suspect it by a test drive and also by reading out values of flown air mass etc., but to fully prove it, the ECU map needs to be read out completely, which the normal service doesn't do.
Most dealers don't care, even in warranty cases, as for warranty work they just charge the full whack of labour to HQ, instead of having to haggle with you over the price.
