I've been lurking for a while and now that I have some expendable cash I'm back in the market for an E60. Something I'd like to do when I get the car is to add a split dual exhaust, but I'm not too keen on having to replace the rear bumper to obtain the cutout for the right tip. I see in https://5series.net/forums/topic/102...ust-installed/ that lutfiabed modded his stock rear bumper to add the right exhaust tip, and I'm wondering if anyone else has done this before? If so how did it turn out? Seems like an easy solution as long as it doesn't look like hell.

Yes of course you can do that !

When done properly, it looks great!
Here are couple of pictures from Schmiedmann:

I say go for it!

It's definitely noticeable and can tell it's not perfect (the upper right is not straight), but it would be cheaper than to buy a new bumper. Or if for some reason, you like the stock bumper better.

Yeah the Schmiedmann is poorly finished, but when done properly, I think it would look good.

as stated above, when done right, it can look great. Member lacster had to cut his rear bumper in order to fit a quad tip set up he wanted for his f10 535i...

they wrapped the cutout with black trim to make it look finished...

scroll down a few as well to see the under the bumper shots...

wow his mod looks awesome but he paid 800-1200 for it? (I'm assuming its plus the exhaust too). I wonder what trim he used.

the black trim is a great idea. really finishes it off nicely.

the pix above look pretty good, but it still looks like a cut-out.

the shop is located in simi valley, give them a call, ask what they use when doing a bumper cut out to give it a finished look.....

and yes, that price includes the exhaust, not just the tips...

Wow, thanks for the examples guys! Lacster's looks amazing, I would definitely shell out the extra $$ for the bumper mod if it looks as good as that. Unfortunately I'm in the Bay Area so Simi valley is a little far for me. Any suggested shops in the bay that anyone can recommend to do similar work?

try contacting Sonic MS, they've worked on a good number member's cars here with great results, if they don't do this kind of work, I'm sure they should have a few shops that could...

you could also try Sleek Motoring as well...again not sure if they do this type of work, but again I'm sure they also have a few shops to recc...

***both shops are in Mountain View....

good luck...
