Hi all

I have seen a set of 19" e65 alloys for sale with 245/45/19 fronts and 275/40/19 rears with nearly new pirelli tyres recently fitted. I currently have 16" alloys which I will use as winter wheels but want 19" alloys for the rest of the year.

I have had 19"s before but find the ride harsh on the stock 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 non-run flats might I add. I like the look of these e65 alloys and want to know if they will bolt straight on without removing the larger tyres.

I believe the extra ride height on these e65 tyres will make for a more comfortable ride. Previous forums on this matter simply say "it wont fit" or advise what I already know "245/35/19 and 275/30/19 only". I have seen a few forums with pics of e65 wheels on e60's looking great but all seem to use e60 spec tyre sizes. Will the extra 10% trye aspect ratio on tyre height, front and rear will cause major problems, particulary when there appears to be plenty space in the arches around the alloys......visually anyway.

Has anyone actually tried a straight bolt on of e65 to e60 wheels? Where are the rubbing issues if any? Is steering a problem? If rubbing only occurs on bumps or with heavy loads, I can live with this.

It is a shame to purchase these wheels and have to remove perfectly good pirellis tyres...especially when the price is right! I will not go down the 19" alloy route and e60 spec 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 tyres as I can not tolerate the harsh ride. BTW BMW service guys are useless on asking such questions "...they will not fit due differing stud patterns"....idiots. I suppose 18" alloys are an option ....but I want 19"s....with road comfort.

Advice only for TIRES not Wheels

The only thing I can tell you is your going to RUB. If you get tooooo lucky it would be occasionally but your surely going to RUB.

I have 245/40/19's on my front and there was barely enough space between the shockabsorber and the tire that I could pass my pinky through the gap but it still concerned me. I asked the tire specialist and he said worst comes to worst it wont rub and that I had barely made it. Ask me - I DONT EVER RUB :hyper:

Pushing the tire size to the 45 series -- FORGET iT in the FRONT.

Lets assume you manage to throw in those tires in your FRONT using spacers (or any other thing) your speedometer would be WAY OFFF.

About the rear, you actually might get away with it, minnor rubbing on big bumps but you can still handle that. Again, depends on the age of your suspension.

Your using a tire as thin as a cookie dude, your going to feel the road :thumbsdown: , hit a pot hole and bend your wheels :wacko:

Upgrade your tire size to 245/40/19(front) and 275/35/19 (rear) Continental DW's and kiss that harsh road GOOD BYE.
I wont promise you they will feel like your Sixteens but man they would be 85% - 90% as close to your Sixteens -- Smooth & QUIET :whistle:

are you on 530i sport suspension racerboss? if so thats good to know that 245/40/19 & 275/35/19 won't rub :thumbsup:

^^^^^ great advice...here is my e60 with OEM Style 249 wheels off an 09 650i sport with the stock 245/40 F 275/35 R Run Flats with eibach pro coils...like racer boss said, SOOOO MUCHHHH better with this tire setup, feels way better than rubber bands and offers better wheel protection....

I have a similar dilema, I have 2007 550i and will be installing the eibach pro kit springs to lower the car by 1 inch. I am looking at a new set of summer wheels, but I find it difficult to decide between R18 over R19 setup. I am not sure if I will like the harsh feel of the R19 275/30 rear and 245/35 front tires. I am looking at 19 inch rims that are 8 wide in the front and 9.5 wide in the back - ET20 offset.

Based on the comments above, it seems that 275/35 in the back and 245/40 in the front will fit without rubbing even when lowering the car. I hope this setup is rubbing free even on speed bumps or fully loaded car. :-)

Based on online calculations the 275/35/R19, 245/40/R19 setup: the rear is 2.79% larger in diameter, and the front is 3.32% larger in diameter, guys are you sure this won't rub? I am guessing at 150Km/h your speedometer would be off by 3% on avergae as well, right? No big deal I guess.

I really like the 19 inch wheels on the lowered 550s, but I am not sure if I can live with the low profile tires on Toronto roads or long distance trips, makes me almost want to go with R18s.

Never had a loaded car but mine now is fine over speed bumps, only get a slight "chirp" when hittin a nasty bump at good speed in the front but Im sure that is due to the very aggressive offset of my front wheels 20x8 ET 13 I believe. If my fender were rolled (probly going to happen soon just for safe measure) I dont forsee any rubbing at all...and as far as the rubber band tires I used to run nothing but them and hated meaty tires but after coming back to a BMW from my lifted Dodge I like a little bit of cushion and the 275/35 R and 245/40 still look good and are very manageable as far as potholes etc, alot smoother ride no doubt...

I just installed the OEM Style 249 wheels with 245/40 front and 275/35 rear on my 06 550i since I saw baggedlvintegra's photo's. But I am experiencing rubbing in both the front and rear wheel wells when turning and going over bumps. I have stock springs. Any advice on how to stop the rubbing?
