My 2005 545i with SMG tranmission has begun to have problems with the steering wheel shift paddles. They are not working to shift gears most of the time, and one of the paddles seems to be slightly broken/loose.
I'm concerned that this might require a full steering wheel replacement?
Has anyone else experienced this and done a repair?
If I must replace the entire wheel, does anyone know if it is possible to get the E60 M5 steering wheel to work? I'd love to have that nice leather steering wheel, if possible.

Unfortunately, they run at around 150-200$ per paddle (yes....
) Did you try to wiggle it, and look at it from behind? To see if it wiggles inside the paddle assembly, or the whole assembly in the steering wheel?

Only the right-hand paddle is loose. I checked at the rear, and the paddle is loose at the top side of the hinge. It's not loose at the point where the paddles mount to the wheel.
The paddles are working intermittently. Sometimes they work, most of the time they don't.
What is the part number for the paddles? I have checked BMWETK and the paddles are not shown anywhere. Not even for the M5.
