Where did the idea come from that the fenders are different?

ats77 has been trying to tell you are they same and I think he is right.
They have vents of course so will have different part numbers but I think you will find that an M5 bumper will fit with the standard wings/fenders.

Respectfully, disagree. The difference is about 20mm between M5 fender and stock e60 fender. Check the Owners manual. You can find both manuals here: http://www.e60.net/information. Scroll down to the bottom. If someone wants to put the original M5 front bumper on with stock fenders, they will have to roll each fender about 10mm.

I think its true. if you look one and other, back and forth, you could see the difference between 2 cars.

I have only judged this by eye,and the cars were not alongside each other.

My apologies, I bow to your superior knowledge.

It does explain why the M5 and sport bumpers are subtely different. Better leave mine alone then...

I looked at the link you provided regarding SG535d's modified rear bumper. It is known that the rear bumpers of the M5 and stock e60 are the same size. Both measure 1846mm wide. I like SG535d's modification too. Nice!

There is also a reason why M5's have 255 size front tires versus 245 size front tires for 545/550. The M5s can accommodate the 255s without rubbing b/c the fenders/wings are wider. I think there are members here that have 255s on their non-M5 e60s. I'm not sure if they are having any rubbing issues. If I recall, Hamann5 and jsal might be two of the members running 255s.

EDIT: I checked both Hamann5 and Jsal. Neither are running 255s in the front.

This is a picture of a real M5 conversion. Not M-tech. Actual M5 front and rear bumper. Notice in the description, it mentions "M5 front wings." I take it to mean M5 front fender.

Just to clarify, the M-Tech Aero kit will fit a stock E60 while an OEM M5 front bumper will not. Is this correct? Thanks

So still it's not clear to me if you can fit the M5 bumper on regular E60 or not?? If the bumper from M5 is wider there is no way that any body shop will fit that bumper. Quad_M what kind of return policy do you have if the M5 bumper won't fit??? Do you have any other pictures of the Rieger front bumper??
Thanks
